Library Details

The George Camp Keiser Library is located in a pleasant converted nineteenth century coach house overlooking the garden of the Middle East Institute at 1761 N Street, NW, Washington, DC.

The Library has a collection of 25,000 books in Western languages and more than 300 periodicals. It has the largest collection of materials on the Middle East in the Washington area, outside the Library of Congress.

The Library specializes in current events, history, culture, economics, religion, politics, and languages of the Middle East. The Middle East is defined by the Institute as those countries stretching from Morocco to Pakistan, including Turkey and the countries of Central Asia. The Library has especially good collections on Islam and Islamic art.

Use of the George Camp Keiser Library is open to the general public. All visitors to the library are granted free wireless access. Full members of MEI may borrow books.

Librarian Simon Braune can be contacted at library@mideasti.org or (202) 785-0183. Full MEI members are encouraged to email the library about creating an online library account.

It has recently come to the library's attention that we are having difficulty receiving email from certain popular web-based email providers (such as yahoo.com). If your email has not been answered within 2 business days please call the library.
